Actually I do love these kind of sales.. It's just like going on a treasure hunt.. Except you have no idea what you're looking for and you'll usually find something which u really like at incredible prices! It sounds like I like the hunting part more than the actual product I'm buying.. It's the overall experience that counts! :)

BUT.. recently I'm trying to cut down on my expenses and the amount of nagging I get from my husband with regards to my spending.. So, this time I went to the John Little sale with a PLAN! and a SHOPPING LIST! erm.. and a NAGGING HUSBAND (N.H.) in tow! This resulted in a shopping experience where I got everything I need at incredible prices.. Lol..

PLAN!

1. Apply for Robinson credit card for Alex : $20 rebate with first transaction (within dunno 1st or 3 months).

2. Apply for Capitaland credit card for myself : $20 capitaland voucher

SHOPPING LIST! (Publicly announced to N.H.)

1. Lo'real true match liquid foundation

2. Some kind of eye cream (I ran out of that 2 days ago)

HIDDEN SHOPPING LIST! (Hidden agenda unknown to N.H.)

1. URS Peep toe sandals at $15

2. Some kind of loose powder (going to run out in 2-3 weeks time..)

NAGGING HUSBAND!

1. Visual deterence by exhibiting an extremely tired face

2. Audio deterrence with his "Are we going home yet..."

3. Emotional deterrence at seeing him so tired yet so accommodating to pei me go shopping.. Hee..

RESULT!

1. I bought the Lo'real foundation at 20% + 20% discount! At $19 something instead of $30.90!

2. I think the eye cream is from Nivea, at 20% discount at $11!

TOTAL DAMAGE = $30 - $1.50 (5% rebate) - $20 (rebate from applying new card) = $8.50!! BUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! So proud of myself.. :P

Hmm.. I might go to the sale again tomorrow for the hidden agendas if I can make time for it during lunch.. After work is dinner @ Melban by my pig friend who's just got a promotion.. Won't miss it for the world~ Till then~

More photos of Denise Koh - Part 2

These photos are taken last evening at KKH. My conclusion is I will never use it again.

This is one of the lousiest sheet masks I've ever used.

1. The shape of the mask is just weird. It is supposed to be a stretch mask and be able to fit your face perfectly due to the stretch properties. However, the forehead part didn't even manage to cover my entire forehead (most other masks could, so I don't think its due to my forehead being too high) and the sides of the masks actually stretched to cover half of my ears. Maybe Bio-essence thought most women are born with faces wider than they are longer..

2. The holes in the masks are just cut weird. The eye holes are too small & placed too close together. The nose hose just had a small slit enough for you to breathe through. Most other masks had more slits to help the mask sit properly on your nose but apparently the only part of my nose that touched the mask is the bridge. I have a high bridge, so the sides of my nose didn't get any benefits from this mask. & the mouth hole was simply too small. Maybe most women have mouths the size of cherries. I know I don't have, so the mask was too restrictive for me.

3. I have no idea what "essence" the sheet mask contains but the vapour from the essence stinged my eyes non stop for the 20 minutes I had the mask on. For most other masks, I can slap the mask on my face & proceed to read a magazine, surf net or check mail. For this mask, every second I had my eyes open, it was a complete torture. I ended up having to close my eyes & just lie there not doing anything. Sting eyes + waste of time = last time I'm ever using it.

And therefore, conclusion is: Unless you've got a face that looks like an egg on its side and super vapour-resistant eyes, stay away from this sheet mask even if they're giving it for free..

More photos of Denise Koh~!!

I went to visit Diana & Denise during lunch & came back with more photos!!

My first view of Denise.. Keke..

Somehow I love babies.. They look so fragile especially when they are newborn.. And they start to look pretty and cute once they turn a month old.. Maybe thats why the Chinese only throw a party for the kid when he/she turns one month cos that's when they start to look cute so that the relatives will start fawning over them..

I can't remember how Diana & Desmond look as newborns.. But I can still remember looking into the nursery window when Daisy was just born and wondering how come my new baby sister didn't look as cute as those new born babies on tv.. In fact, she looked quite ugly.. And why all the other babies in the same nursery look quite ugly as well.. It was then that I realised that TV shows are actually quite fake.. I can't imagine that a baby can actually look cute and pretty after they just got squeezed thru a 10cm tunnel..

Anyway, I'm going to KK to visit them during lunch & after work as well.. Ward 32 Bed 23 if anyone is interested. Gonna buy 3223 also.. Prays baby brings lots of luck to us.. Haha.. Will update with more photos when they are available.. :)

Use Case - Preconditions vs Assumptions

With regards to the previous post about Use Case writing, another question that case up is the Precondition vs Assumption issue. How exactly does a precondition differ from an assumption?

As defined in the previous post, preconditions describes the state of the system that must be true in order for the trigger to initiate the use case. These preconditions will be evaluated by the system when the trigger event occurs. If the system is not in the state as described by the preconditions, the use case will not be initiated.

In contrast, assumptions refer to things that are assumed to be true about the system (or another system) for the use case to function. They will not be evaluated by the system under any circumstance.

The differences between a precondition & an assumption are as follows:

1. The precondition may be evaluated to a boolean state of being either True or False, whereas the assumption will always be True.
2. The precondition describes only the state of the system, whereas the assumption can refer to either the system or another system.
3. Preconditions are evaluated at run time to determine whether the use case will start, whereas assumptions are not evaluated by the system under any circumstances.
4. If a precondition is not met, the user will take a different path or execute a different use case. If an assumption is not met, this will mean the requirements of the system may need to be changed.

Special thanks to Wikipedia & JBeatty from Seilevel Requirements Message Board for the information.

Use Case - Triggers vs Preconditions

I presented a use case template to my team yesterday and realised that use case writing is not as straightforward as I thought it should be. One of the questions that came up was the Trigger vs Precondition issue, which I thought I'll keep a post here to remind myself of what they actually represent.

A trigger is an event, either a "simple event" or a "trigger event". A "simple event" may be external (initated by Actor) or internal (initiated by System). If an use case is not initiated by a "simple event", rather it is initiated when a set of conditions are met, there will need to be a triggering process that runs regularly to test whether the conditions are met. The "trigger event" is a signal fired by this triggering condition when the conditions are met.

The main difference between trigger and precondition is that trigger describes events, either simple events or trigger events, whereas preconditions describes system conditions. Preconditions describes the state of the system that must be true in order for the trigger to initiate the use case. If the system is not in the state described by the preconditions, the use case will not be initiated even when the trigger event occurs.

It is of course possible for a condition to be both a trigger and a precondition. However this is considered to be a rare case and we will need to check carefully when we detect such occurances. If an error is made here, the use case may be triggered when the system is in a state which the developer has not planned for (ie incorrect preconditions) and the module may fail.

Besides Wikipedia, I am afraid I am unable to give credit to the relevant information sources as I closed the webpages once I was done with my research. As such, I will like to apologise to original authors. This is something I will take note of in future.

Maybelline Pure Minerals Powder Foundation

I bought a new powder foundation today! I've been hunting high and low for a suitable foundation for the past month & have finally decided to buy the Loreal True Match Liquid Foundation next week ($22.50 at Watson, $8 discount from UP $30.50).. Then I spotted this!! Maybelline Pure Minerals at $12.95, 50% discount from UP $25.90!! What a great buy!!

Frankly speaking, I don't think I need a powder foundation. What I need is still the liquid foundation which I'm still going to buy next week. But I couldn't resist the 50% discount and hence justified it with "I can use it during the weekend when I don't want to go through the entire works & still look pretty!" :P I can literally hear my husband.. *WOMEN~* Lol..

Back to the pros of this product (besides the $12.95 price tag), it's supposed to be natural looking, flawless coverage, long wearing, SPF15, helps care for your skin & no talc no oil. There's been quite a lot of hype about mineral makeup and organic food lately but I am not sure if these things really work in principle. But THEORITICALLY, it should work well.. You know, like theoritical physics, theoritical share price, etc..

Anyway, for product application, a lot of website is recommending me to apply it in circles and work it into the skin. That sounds a lot like how I apply my liquid foundation and powder every morning. :D I won't be able to give a review on it until I try it (over the weekend... ) So till then.. :)

MAMP Installation

I just installed MAMP on my macbook.

For those new to the world of open source content management systems, MAMP stands for MAC, Apache, MySql & PHP. It is a fuss-free way of installing the pre-requisite software for Joomla, all I had to do was drag and drop the installation folder into the Applications folder. I am still trying to get used this style of doing installation. Back in the windows day, it could have taken me maybe 20 clicks through the installation wizard just to get this done!

Next step shall be Joomla installation. I tried working on it just now but I hit an error msg saying cookies are not enabled in safari. Well, I checked & cookies appeared to be enabled, so I have no idea what is wrong. I'll have to wait till Alex wakes up to troubleshoot the installation. Till then. :)

Genting Singapore leapt 14% in one day

When is the last time anyone remember seeing a blue chip counter on SGX leap 14% in one day??

More than 683 million Genting Singapore shares were traded today and it closed at $1.46. 3 months ago on 13th May 2010, it closed at $0.98, reflecting a growth of about 50% in just 3 months.

Apparently, there was a surge in shareholder's interest after the release of the Q2 results of a $396 million quarter profit and resulted in a buying frenzy despite the overall gloom of stock markets all over the world.
